Musings from the farm.

11.5.24

Off to AFM in a few days to try my luck at launching two projects dear to my heart. When I said diversify, this was exactly what I’m talking about –there are so many ways to tell a story, and what feels small right now in a business where many aren’t working, we also must remember how many collaborators are out there; how many great creatives, social impact practiconers, and exciting technologies await us. Look me up if you’re there, or link with me on LinkedIn, or Cinando.

Election Day! It’s a stressful one for many, and really makes me think deeply how social impact and entertainment can play a more important role in empathy and understanding. Media literacy, at the core, has been lost to a bounty of memes, X posts, and personalized vendettas. I’ve fallen more than once for the click bate.

Here I’ll be posting my observations and musings on what ever tickles me, or in today’s case has made me insane.

12.8.24 – Impact + Profit 2024 Conference – it’s a wrap!

I write you from the couch. Exhausted. Heart full. Hundreds of hours of work that collided together in a perfect storm of social impact inspiration. A love fest for those who care passionately about the world.

There’s so much to take away from these two days that take us the whole year to pull together, and somehow it flies by in a whirlwind. But the one thing I’m always struck by how much these folks are doing the work.

In the trenches, fighting the good fight here and abroad. So much care for others who might have no other recourse for healthcare or human rights if it weren’t for those in the room willing to fight.

We’re about to release all the videos of the panels and I will greedily sit down and watch these inspiring words now with less stress and more attention, perhaps even popcorn but certainly pencil and pad, because it’s astounding to hear how so many have chosen a noble path through the use of entertainment. how much good has come from this medium.

The SIE Society was founded on one simple premise: bring everyone under the same circus tent for a louder voice, a bigger footprint. Hearing how many found value in our work during a very hard year leaves me with some satisfaction that while entertainment is shifting drastically, these folks aren’t going anywhere. It makes me so proud to play a role in creating a gathering place where the work is celebrated.

It gets me so excited I can’t wait to start planning next year…. In a little bit. Right now it’s time to rest up, recharge, and renew goals for 2025. How we’re almost your fourth anniversary I’ll never know.

Happy holidays, SIE bandits.
